Accessibility at Future Vanguard
We build software for the public, so this site is held to the standard we build to: WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This page records how we test it, what we found, and how to reach us if anything gets in your way.

How we test
- Automated checks with axe-core against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 Level A and AA rules plus best practices, on every page, at desktop (1440 pixels) and phone (390 pixels) widths.
- Keyboard-only walkthrough of every page: a skip link first, a visible focus indicator on every control, a full-screen menu that traps focus while open and returns it to the Menu button on Escape.
- Color contrast measured from rendered pixels rather than from stylesheet values, because text on this site sits over a moving flag and translucent panels. The worst case we measured for body text is 6.6 to 1; the header over the flag measures at least 7.5 to 1.
- Reduced motion: with the operating-system setting on, scroll-driven sequences, the flag animation and the rotating headline photos stop and every section shows its finished state.
- Reflow at 320 pixels wide with no horizontal scrolling.
What we found and fixed
- Links in the footer and in one scroll-animated section were hidden from keyboard users until the page had been scrolled far enough. They are now always reachable, and they appear at full strength as soon as they receive focus.
- The headline photographs rotate automatically. They now have a Pause photos control, and they do not rotate at all when reduced motion is requested.
- Pages now carry a main landmark, a skip link, and headings in order, and arrow symbols inside links are no longer read aloud.
- After these fixes, the automated checks report no failures on any page at either width.
Known limitations
- Automated and scripted testing cannot catch everything. A full manual pass with screen readers (VoiceOver and NVDA) has not yet been completed for this version of the site.
- The waving flag behind the page is decorative. It carries no information and can be stopped with the reduced-motion setting.
- The downloadable capability statement is a tagged PDF with embedded fonts. Its content is also published in full as a web page.
